Permanent Resident -VISA application-

Who can apply?

  • In principle, have resided in Japan for 10 years and have work experience for 5 years
    • In the case of a spouse of Japanese or Permanet resident,
      • 3 year marriage and 1 year resinding in Japan
    • In the case of a Highly Skilled Professional (including deemed), 
      • 80 - point,  1 year residing in Japan
      • 70 - 80 point, 3 years residing in Japan
  • Must pay taxes, health insurance, and pensions without delay for the respective period mentioned above (5, 3, 1 or 3 years)
  • Have a stable household income (minimum income depends on the number of family members)
  • Must have a Guarantor (Japanese or Permanent resident)

When to submit?   How long dose it take?

- You can apply at any time after the above period has elapsed

- The standard inspection period is about 4 months, but it can be longer depending on circumstances.

Required documents?

  • Letter of Guarantee  ( format)
  • Application form  ( format)
  • Acknowledgement form  ( format)
  • ID Photo (4cm×3cm)  *Taken within the last 3 months
             (* Not required for an applicant under the age of 16.)
  • Passport and Residence card (or alien registration certificate deemed equivalent to a residence card)

  • Reason for application   1 copy  (except spouse or child of Japanese or permanent resident)
  • Documents to certify family relation  (e.g. Family register,  Birth certificate, Marriage certificate)
  • Certificate of Residnece
  • Documents to certify employment or job  (e.g. Certificate of employment) 
  • Documents to certify annual income and municipal tax (for required work years)
  • Documents to certify assets (e.g. Bank balance, Registry of real asset)
  • National tax certificate - type3   
  • Japanese Pension record
  • Health insurance card   1 copy
  • ID of guarantor

Inspection criteria?

  1. The applicant's behavior and conduct have been good and
  2. The applicant has sufficient assets or ability to make an independent living

 In principle, 10-year consecutive stay in Japan is required. And during this 10-year, 5-year work experience is necessary.

   * The required period-of-stay differs from your current Status of Residence.

        Highly skilled professional (including deemed)

                 --- (80 point)   1-year continuous stay 

                 --- (70 point)   3-year

        Spouse of Japanese or Permanent residence

                 --- 3-year marriage and 1-year continuous stay

        Biological child

                 --- 1-year continuous stay

        Long-term resident

                 --- 5-year continuous stay

 Current Status of Residence has the longest period of stay. (at now, 3-year is sufficient.)

 Applicant has complied with legal obiligations.

 Applicant does not need any public financial assistance.

Standard duration of inspection?

4 to 6 months (may be longer depending on situations.)
