Business Manager -VISA application-

Who can apply?

Foreign national wishing to run a business in Japan as  business manager.

When to submit?

  • Applicant should submit necessary documents well in advance so that the applicant may receive the certificate before entering Japan.
  • From any changes in the applicant's resident status up until the applicant's resident status expires

Necessary documents? (For eligibility)

  • Application form 1copy  ( format)
  • Photo (4cm×3cm) 1copy
    (A photo is not required for persons under the age 16 years.)
    *A photo that shows the applicant pictured alone.
    *The applicant should face squarely to the front and should remove any hats, caps or head coverings.
    *There should be a plain background with no shadows.
    *The photo must be sharp and clear.
    *The photo must have been taken within three months prior to submission.
  • Passport and residence card (or alien registration certificate deemed equivalent to a residence card)
  • A return-mail envelope affixed with stamp(s) worth 392 yen (for the recorded delivery purpose)

  • In cases where the person concerned intends to commence the operation of international trade or other business, or to invest in the business; the following materials are required.
    1. A business plan, copies of the company registration and a statement of profit and loss.
    2. Material showing the number of the full-time staff expect the foreign national concerned, and in the case where the number of the full-time staff is two, copies of resident cards or registration certificate and documents regarding wage payments of the staff concerned.
    3. Material showing the outline of the business office.
    4. Material certifying the amount of investment made by the alien.
  • In cases where the person concerned intends to engage in management of international trade or other business on behalf of the foreign national who began or invested the business concerned; the following materials are required.
    1. A business plan, copies of the company registration and a statement of profit and loss.
    2. Material showing the number of the full-times staff except the foreign national concerned, and in the case where the number of the full-time staff is two, copies of resident cards or alien registration cards and documents regarding wage payments of the staff concerned.
    3. Material showing the outline of the business office.
    4. Documents certifying the activity, its duration, position and the remuneration of the person concerned.
  • In cases where the person concerned intends to engage in management of international trade or other business on behalf of the foreign national who began or invested the business concerned or is engaged on management of the business concerned which was begun or invested in Japan; the following materials are required.
    1. A business plan, copies of the company registration and a statement of profit and loss.
    2. Material showing the number of the full-time staff except the foreign national concerned, and in the case where the number of the full-time staff is two, copies of resident cards or alien registration cards and documents regarding wage payments of the staff concerned.
    3. Material showing the outline of the business office.
    4. Documents certifying the career of the person concerned and his or her certificate of graduation with a major in management or administration.
    5. Documents certifying the activity, its duration, position and the remuneration of the person concerned.

Screening criteria?

The activities to be engaged in while in Japan stated in the application

  • must fall under activities
    • to commence the operation of an international trade or other business

(except for activities to engage in the operation or management of a business which is prohibited without the legal qualifications listed in the right hand column of the "Legal/Accounting Services" section).


(i) In cases where the applicant intends to commence the operation of international trading or any other business, he/she must fulfill all of thefollowing requirements.

 (a) The facilities to be used as the office for the relevant business must be located in Japan

 (b) The business concerned must have the capacity to employ at least 2 full time employees in Japan (excluding foreign nationals residing in Japan under a status of residence listed in the left hand column of Appended Table I (see VISA list table 1) of the Immigration Control Act)in addition to those who operate and/or manage the business.

(ii) In cases where the applicant intends to invest in international trading or any other business in Japan and to engage in the operation of such business, or in cases where the applicant intends to engage in themanagement of international trading or any other business on behalf of a foreign national (including a foreign juridical person; hereinafter the sameshall apply in this section) who has begun such operations in Japan or who has invested in such a business in Japan, he/she must fulfill all of thefollowing requirements.

    (a) The office for the relevant business must be located in Japan.

    (b) The business concerned must have the capacity to employ at least 2 full-time employees in Japan (excluding foreign nationals residing in Japan under a status of residence listed in the left hand column of Appended Table I (see VISA list table 1) of the Immigration Control Act)in addition to those who operate and/or manage the business.

(iii) In cases where the applicant is to engage in the management of international trading or any other business in Japan, (a) he/she must have at least 3 years' experience in business operation and/or management (this includes any period he/she has spent studying business operation and/or management at the post graduate level) and (b) must receive no less remuneration than would a Japanese national for comparable work.

 


 Prior to application, the office, facilities and employees need to be preapred in Japan. (A virtual office can not be allowed.)

 Business capacity must be at least the size requiring 2 full-time employees or 5 million yen investment.

 Supervisor must have at least 3-year experiece of business management or supervisor (including professional study in a graduated school).
